ICL Services develops solution for automatic video recognition of coal type and grade

«The order came from a coal mining and processing enterprise. We developed a prototype of an automated AI-based system to prevent the expensive coal being swapped for the cheap one, precluding it from being sold at higher prices off-site,» says Victoria Kapmar, ICL Services Agile Specialist. «The coal at this plant is divided into two grade groups — cheap and expensive. But sometimes, coal of a different grade or type than the one declared is brought through the checkpoints. The computer vision-based system we have developed can determine the grade from the image of the dump lorry box with the coal and alert the specialists if there is a discrepancy,» — stated Ms Kapmar.

ICL Services solution allowed the company to monitor its activities and avoid errors in coal sales, maximised ease of use, ensured that only quality materials leave the production lines, reduced cost risks and increased profits.
