Robots import substitution for Bank of Kazan

Banks require a high level of IT support to ensure the smooth operation of their internal systems. For example, Bank of Kazan, one of the oldest banks in the Republic of Tatarstan, used automation based on the UIPath RPA platform for data reconciliation within its document management system. When the vendor exited the Russian market, the Bank of Kazan was compelled to seek a suitable substitute. ICL Services, a Russian system integrator with extensive experience in migrating robotic systems, proposed a solution.

Client

The client is one of the oldest banks in Tatarstan, providing financial and credit services to its customers for over 30 years. The bank has branches in six cities across Russia, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Kazan.

Project Background

The client's branch that worked with legal entities used automation based on the UIPath RPA platform for data reconciliation. Information about legal entities in electronic document management system databases is constantly updated, necessitating their accuracy in the client's automated banking system.

The robot compared data about legal entities with data in the bank's core banking system, updated the latter, and reported the results to bank service employees. Hundreds of profiles were processed automatically in this way each month.

The previous robot operated on the UIPath platform, but its license could not be renewed due to the vendor's exit from the Russian market. Therefore, ICL Services specialists were tasked with selecting a Russian equivalent, diagnosing the compatibility of the new solution with the automated processes and ensuring a seamless migration without any downtime or disruptions to banking services.

Implementation

After examining the client's infrastructure, ICL Services began analyzing RPA solutions in the Russian market. Upon agreement on the chosen solution, we proceeded with the migration plan. A session was also held to identify potential risks the team might encounter during the migration process. The experts selected the Russian Primo RPA solution for its affordability and robust features.

The team assessed the compatibility of environments, estimated the volume of data transfer, upgraded the test environment, and conducted load testing.

Once the primary migration tasks were completed, ICL Services specialists conducted acceptance tests on the robot to simulate its operation under real workload conditions.

The standard RPA modules were migrated automatically, while the special ones were migrated manually. At the same time, potential areas for development were identified and the performance of the RPA platform was monitored.

During the migration process, close communication was maintained with the software vendor, resulting in improvements to Primo RPA's orchestrator, a centralized robot management console. Following the migration, ICL Services provides continued technical support for the RPA automations.

Technology Stack

The project team primarily used UI Path and the RPA platform from the Russian vendor Primo RPA, one of the market leaders.

Project Results

After six months of meticulous work, the team successfully implemented a risk-free Russian automation alternative without compromising the bank’s business process quality.

Additionally, ICL Services specialists introduced innovative ideas to enhance existing automations, while tailored technical support for maintaining automations and updating the RPA platform ensures continuous monitoring.
