The client requested consultation as it was searching for a design organization to carry out its automated vehicle weight and dimensional control stations (AVWDCS) project. This task was of strategic importance for improving cargo flow control and ensuring compliance with transportation safety and environmental regulations. Additionally, the client specified the need to use automation equipment from a specific vendor. This requirement means that the design documentation must include detailed technical specifications and diagrams for connecting the equipment and integrating it into the overall weight and dimensional control system. It was important to consider how the new equipment would interact with existing systems at the site. This included analyzing potential conflicts and identifying necessary adaptations to ensure compatibility. Project documentation had to comply with all applicable safety standards, including occupational health and environmental requirements. Measures needed to be taken to minimize risks associated with operating the weight and dimensional control system. Thus, when choosing a vendor to create and develop design documentation for automated vehicle weight and dimensional control stations, the goal was to ensure ultimate balance between the client's highly specific requirements and exacting design and operational standards. This would not only ensure project success, but also help achieve its strategic objectives of improving cargo flow control efficiency.

Key Challenges

  • Develop design documentation for the construction of an automated weight and dimensional control station.
  • Develop a system architecture that would ensure effective interaction among all AVWDCS components.
  • Create equipment connectivity plans and define data exchange protocols between systems, with detailed drawings of all system elements, including equipment placement on site, connection diagrams, and communication line layouts.
  • Determine mechanisms for technical support and system maintenance after implementation.
Implemented our solution

  1. The Customer needed to conduct a thorough analysis of proposals from various design organizations. It was important to consider not just the vendor's experience with similar projects but also the availability of necessary licenses, certifications, and qualified personnel capable of handling the project’s technical requirements.

Thanks to our team’s in-depth expertise in wireless network design and modernization, we at ICL Services successfully developed design documentation for the linear segment, including highway expansion and an automated weight and dimensional control station complex.

The experts applied a systematic design approach, covering all stages—from analyzing existing conditions to implementing and testing the final solution. This enabled the integration of new technologies into the existing infrastructure.

Next, the area’s topology was then conducted, including terrain, obstacles, and existing utilities, was analyzed in detail. This was critical for optimizing wireless access point placement and ensuring stable connectivity in a dynamic traffic environment.

Based on this analysis, the experts selected high-performance equipment meeting modern wireless communication standards. This included LTE and Wi-Fi 6 technologies, providing high bandwidth and reliable connectivity for data transmission from the AVWDCS.

The final outcome was complete project documentation, including connectivity plans, equipment specifications, installation and configuration instructions, as well as recommendations for future system maintenance.

The resulting wireless communication system integrates with existing traffic management systems, enabling time-sensitive monitoring and control of vehicle flow while also improving highway safety.

Products and technologies

  • Technological and design solutions for a linear location (highway segment)
  • Engineering communications (outdoor lighting, power supply to the AVWDCS)

Results

  • Working from scratch, we developed a complete package of design documentation for the automated weight and dimensional control station complex, considering all client requirements and architectural features of the design object
  • We ensured that the design solutions complied with modern requirements and standards while achieving a high level of client satisfaction.
