A crucial component was establishing a monitoring system for the IT infrastructure to oversee resource availability and performance, as well
Key Challenges
- Conduct a pre-project site survey and gather initial information
- Develop a schematic design for architecture at the sites, technical documentation, as well as working documentation for the contractor
- Oversee the execution of documentation and provide technical support
- Design and implement an IT infrastructure monitoring system
- Design and implement data center services (Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, RADIUS)
Site survey
In August 2023, ICL Services specialists began surveying sites, collecting primary data on server locations, switch placements, required connection capacities, etc. Following the inspection, detailed reports were compiled based on floor plans and client requirements regarding connection numbers, network access groups, etc., updated as events moved from one venue to another.
Preliminary design
In autumn 2023, the team developed a preliminary design and, upon approval from the client, produced technical documentation detailing specific technical solutions for procurement, basic infrastructure architecture, etc., covering about 3,000 workstations across 10 venues and approximately 150 access switches with a total port capacity of around 3,000.
Working documentation and author's supervision
By late 2023, working documentation was finalized for the contractor to initiate the purchased equipment, followed by authorial supervision over project execution.
Architectural solutions were monitored on-site while a system to monitor load and network failures was set up in the Operations Center. During the event, ICL Services representatives were stationed at the venues around-the-clock to promptly resolve any malfunctions or failures.
For instance, on the first day of the event, they quickly identified and resolved an unexpected server disk overflow issue, averting potential negative impacts on the competition.
