The customer of the project is the Don State Technical University (DSTU), a higher education institution in Rostov-on-Don. The university was founded in 1907 and is the flagship university of the Rostov Region.
The university structure includes 6 branches, 24 faculties, the Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, a college, a gymnasium, a lyceum, a cadet school and a kindergarten. As of 2024, more than 29 thousand students are studying at the university, including more than 2 thousand foreign citizens.Key Challenges
- Optimize and consolidate the university’s disparate IT infrastructure
- Implement a solution for managing workstations and servers Colibri-UEM
The project was carried out by ICL Services specialists together with Rostelecom in Rostov-on-Don.
First of all, the Russian manufacturer of computing equipment ICL Techno provided the equipment. Then ICL Services took on the task of monitoring computers for equipment standards, configurations and installed software.
Then, as part of the project, at the request of the university, the Rostelecom project office developed and integrated a special hardware and software complex into the IT infrastructure of DSTU. The hardware and software complex included a system for managing automated user workstations and servers - a new domestic analogue of the Microsoft SCCM/MECM system developed by ICL Services, Colibti-UEM.
To unite all devices into a single digital space, the national provider's specialists built a technical infrastructure and connected the IT department with all campuses of the university with a single network.
At the same time, the creation of an integrated digital space based on the "single window" principle for such a large university became a necessity dictated by modern challenges. The system is designed to simplify interaction between a large staff of employees and improve overall work efficiency.
Ilnur Ibragimov, Technical Director of the Colibri-UEM product: "We are very pleased to contribute to the digitalization of modern education. Our product is capable of uniting hundreds of user workstations and helping to manage them - this is exactly what is needed when the IT infrastructure is geographically dispersed and difficult to operate."
Results
- Created a comprehensive IT infrastructure for the university.
- From now on, the DSTU IT department has the ability to manage internal applications, monitor configurations and equipment inventory, and provide remote technical support to all users.
