ICL Services

An international car manufacturer

The customer that commissioned the project was transnational a car manufacturer with worldwide renown. It is currently Russia's only official importer of cars and light trucks under its own brand.
The customer's entire IT infrastructure used to be integrated into European data centers and supported by international service providers.

In the summer of 2022, amid geopolitical changes and a crisis in the market, the global headquarters decided to disconnect the Russian division from its central infrastructure. The customer needed to urgently deploy a secure, fault-tolerant in-house infrastructure and migrate its business applications. To complete this extremely important business task, the company turned to ICL Services.

Key Challenges

  • Deploy infrastructure, mi-grate workstations and business applications to a Russian platform.
  • Build a system for provid-ing secure remote access to the new infrastructure.
  • Protect endpoints by ap-plying advanced malware detection, encryption, and vulnerability identification mechanisms.
Implemented our solution

  1. Work on the project began in August 2022. The global office did not provide the resources for service migration, while setting rigid shutdown deadlines.

    First, ICL architects and engineers took service inventory, designed an infrastructure layout, and mapped out migration options.

    Then, they started working on infrastructure deployment, network configuration, and detailed plans for migrating applications, workstations, network resources, and information security.

    Active Directory was deployed, and the following features were installed: terminal access servers, all workstation and server management systems, network services, firewalls, and authentication services. The internal directory service was integrated into Yandex 360 products. Advanced endpoint protection systems were deployed and configured.

    ICL Services staff also maintained customer interaction with government agencies for financial and tax reporting purposes, in accordance with all technical requirements.

    The project involved integrating the business processes of different corporate entities with one another, which posed a challenge, as in certain systems, downtime of even a single day was completely unacceptable. In addition, more than 1,500 user workstations and more than a hundred business applications had to be migrated.

    Nevertheless, the preparations took less than three months in their entirety.

Results

  • The customer's in-house infrastructure was de-ployed from the ground up, and all employee data and 100 critical business appli-cations were migrated successfully;
  • External access to dealers and interactions with fi-nancial institutions were preserved;
  • The customer's employees and business partners re-ceived secure remote ac-cess to the new infrastruc-ture;
  • A multi-tier system was built to protect applications and business data;
  • The infrastructure was se-cured against malware and advanced threats;
  • The migration process was prepared and fine-tuned in less than 3 months.
