A world-famous producer of energy drinks

The customer company uses a number of financial indicators for various data that are measured and combined to gather in-depth analytics.

The customer carries out financial reporting using two independent systems, with one collecting information on revenue and expenditure and the other on budgeting. The customer has to connect to both systems at the same time to access aggregated analytics, and only then can they transform and merge the data. In addition to posing an increased risk of data migration errors, this process is time-consuming and generally inconvenient.

The customer needed a contractor to develop a new system. The ICL Services development team has extensive experience in building BI solutions (and multidimensional databases for internal services in particular, e.g., financial control and service delivery systems) and distributing these solutions for international customers.

Implemented our solution

  1. The ICL Services development team suggested solving the problem by automating the collection and reporting process using Analysis Services cubes.

    This mechanism allows to:

    • refer to both data sources (in this case the revenue/expenditure accounting system and the budgeting system);
    • save information in a data warehouse;
    • merge the obtained data;
    • automatically calculate the metrics and financial indicators needed for the business' decision-making;
    • display data on all relevant areas.
    This was exactly what the customer needed to solve their business problem.

    In addition, the ICL Services development team ensured the reliability and fault tolerance of the new system, as well as the availability of the data even in the event of integration failure. This was achieved by implementing an advanced monitoring module that allows detecting and fixing all cases of incorrect source data retrieval in a timely manner.

Results

  • The customer received an easy-to-use automated system for collecting data from two sources for financial analysis.
  • The customer's employees can now generate reports on their own, and no longer require assistance from relevant departments.
  • All data is stored in one place and is available to sales analysts and financial analysts.
  • All reports can be generated in a single click and for individual indicators. Employees have a better understanding of the terms of trade, which allows them to better plan and execute plans.
