ICL Services becomes a laureate of the 2021 time for innovation awards
This week, Dubai hosted the 2021 Time for Innovation awards ceremony. ICL Services’ (ICL Group subsidiary) solution, Part Recognition System for Warehouses, became the winner in the Technical Innovation of the Year category.
As part of this project, specialists from ICL Services developed and successfully implemented a system for identifying parts stored by a large industrial enterprise. Using computer vision, the system can recognize parts within the camera’s field of view and display their storage location in the warehouse. The innovation of this project lies in the fact that it makes the collection of real photos of stored items unnecessary, as it instead recognizes parts using their 3D models.

The project solves a quite common problem that can be encountered by any industrial enterprise: when you have tens of thousands of items stored at your warehouse, not knowing how they look can oftentimes lead to a lengthy search. But thanks to the implementation of this project, the enterprise has achieved high employee productivity both at the warehouse and in the company as a whole. The time it takes to recognize parts was reduced to less than a second, and the accuracy of the system reached 99% when working with a catalog of as many as 4,000 items.
The award ceremony was held as part of the forum on international cooperation in the field of innovation at the venue of the Expo 2020 World Exhibition. More than 50 speakers from 5 countries participated in the event, presenting their best projects related to the design, implementation, and development of innovations in all areas of business.
